Volunteering

Volunteer Teachers and Volunteer Teaching Assistants

for Primary School (Grade 1-9)

Description:

Join Peduli Anak Foundation on a yearlong full immersion volunteer service program in breathtakingly beautiful Lombok island! This is your chance to teach in our new school, learn Lombok culture, experience Lombok, and contribute to providing high-standard and affordable education for all.

Peduli Anak International Primary School will be open in 2010 accepting students from Grade 1 to 9. All former street children who are currently living in the foundation will go to this school for free and joining with them are non-Peduli Anak children from surrounding communities. This combination offers a wide array of children’s diversity and with that comes new challenges for you teachers!

Who:

Teachers, qualified volunteer teachers/teacher assistants, retiring/retired teachers or teacher assistants of any subjects at any levels, although we will also consider applicants who have been educated to degree level. It is important to have a genuine interest in making a worthwhile contribution and the ability to live in a rural environment while establishing a solid relationship with the local community. Enthusiasm for working with young people is also essential.

Placement length:

We would prefer our volunteers to make a commitment of a minimum of one year to coincide with the school term times (2 terms/year). It is important to recognize that, although the volunteers will benefit enormously from their experience at Peduli Anak, our main responsibility is to provide consistent and effective assistance to our children and the community.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree (in any subject)

* Must be a native English speaker

* Teaching experience

* Passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for high quality teaching and learning

* Ability to inspire children and teacher colleagues

* Comfort and independence working in cross-cultural environments

* Good people skills and organizational skills

* Flexibility and creativity in problem solving

* Interest in international education and development

* Have a good sense of humor (it helps!)

Peduli Anak pays no salary and no personal expenses. In return of your service, you get a new life in an absolutely wonderful place and the pleasure of giving your skills and experience in ways that are truly appreciated.

Please forward your enquiries and applications to contact@pedulianak.com
